Several weeks ago I acquired a bow. It is a 35# traditional recurve. I probably should not have bothered with these arrows, but as a new bow shooter I needed something to work with that did not cost a lot to start with. I had no idea about spine or form or even how to begin. So I got twelve of the most "economical" arrows that I could find. These are supposed to be good up to 45# and my draw length is 26 inches so they looked like a good deal.

Problem number one: The nocks are too tight and are only press fit on the shaft. I have had half of them loose their nocks. The arrow left the bow OK, but the nock was still on the string. I glued them back on and used a small file to open the nocks.
Problem number two: The tips are so weak that if they hit something more solid than foam or straw, like heavy cardboard or a tree, the tips start to collapse. They are only stamped sheet metal and are press fit onto the end of the arrow.
Problem number three: the vanes are the heaviest things on the arrow. That puts the center of gravity very close to the center of pressure (no forward weight) so they are not very stable in flight. Half the time the arrow sticks into the target at a 45 degree angle. It may be that they are too flexible, which would be a problem with spine weight. The problem however, is even worse with a 25# bow, which is the reverse of what one would expect. Also, they are inconsistent as to whether they are angled to the right or the left which would not be true if spine weight were the problem.

Bottom line: You get what you pay for. If the arrow is for someone old enough to handle a potentially lethal weapon, don't bother.
